Poe Could Miss Start of Regular Season
Tuesday, July 28
The Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor reported Poe "stands a reasonable chance to return early in the season," while Sweeney noted that the run-stopper is slated to report to training camp Friday.
In the interim, Jaye Howard is slated to assume Poe's duties, per Paylor.
The two-time Pro Bowler has missed just one game over the course of his three-year career, and the 2014 season represented a high point for the 24-year-old from a pass-rushing perspective. During the 2014 campaign, Poe tallied six sacks—up from 4.5 the year prior. He also accrued 38 tackles.
And as Rotoworld's Evan Silva pointed out, Poe's absence isn't ideal for a Chiefs defense that's already dealing with its fair share of injury troubles:
Considering the Chiefs ranked 26th in rushing yards allowed (2,036) with a healthy Poe manning the middle of the defensive line, teams should be preparing to feast on a short-handed Kansas City front should the Memphis product miss any significant time.
