Anderson Silva Beats Tyron Woodley By TKO in Round 2 of Boxing Fight on Jake Paul Card
Anderson Silva brought some nostalgia to the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua card with a second-round TKO win over Tyron Woodley on the main card from Miami.
Silva came into the bout looking much younger than 50. The Spider looked impressive before the opening bell.
That being said he did get off to a slow start. He didn't throw many punches and Woodley was the more aggressive fighter in the first round.
Unfortunately for Woodley, Silva still has crushing accuracy. He tapped his shoe then fired off a beautiful uppercut that found a home and a follow-up flurry floored Woodley.
Silva's power and technicality are no doubt impressive for a fighter who dominated in another combat sport. He certainly earned some respect for his skills at 50.
The former UFC legend continues to have some post-retirement success in the boxing ring. The 50-year-old came up short in a fight against Paul in 2022, but he now holds wins over Tito Ortiz, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Woodley.
This was Silva's first appearance since dropping a unanimous decision to Paul three years ago so it's unclear when or if we will see The Spider in the ring again.
However, it's worth noting that Silva was supposed to add another chapter to his rivalry with Chris Weidman on this card. Weidman, 41, withdrew from the fight due to injury.
The All-American famously beat Silva twice in the UFC and a boxing match would have been a fun throwback. The Spider didn't commit to wanting to make a match with Weidman happen, but it would certainly make sense if he wants to continue his post-retirement boxing tour.
"I believe that change always happens for a reason," Silva said in a statement after the opponent change. "I am focused on doing a good job. Always respecting my opponent and showing total respect to the boxing world."
Silva flirted with going into boxing even during the height of his MMA career. He called for a fight against Roy Jones Jr. back in 2013.
That fight never materialized, but the MMA legend seems to be enjoying showcasing his boxing skill in crossover fights.
