De'Zhaun Stribling Carted Off for 49ers vs. Rams, Latest Injury Updates on WR and Fantasy Outlook

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling was ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams after suffering a left ankle injury during the second quarter.

Stribling went down without contact after running a route, a concerning sign.

The Niners rebuilt their wideout room this offseason, drafting the 23-year-old Stribling in the second round (No. 33 overall), signing veteran star Mike Evans and bringing back Deebo Samuel in free agency. That trio, paired with a now-healthy George Kittle and the dynamic Christian McCaffrey, was expected to give Brock Purdy and nice suite of weapons.

The quarterback certainly seemed excited about the upside of Stribling.

"Obviously, really excited about him. He's a smart kid. He's come in, learned our offense. He's got strong hands, great route runner, all the things—the reasons why we drafted him. He's showing it and proving it," he said during an August appearance on The Pat McAfee Show (6:45 mark). "But I think just having him in there with a guy like Mike, Deebo, Demarcus Robinson, we've got a great room of receivers. And so, for him to be able to learn from them, but also be able to go out and show that he's willing to be in that starting rotation, he has shown that at camp. "So, we're all really excited about him. We're going to have his back this year. It's a long year as a rookie; we get it, but he's shown flashes. So, we're all really excited about him."

Unfortunately, Stribling's rookie season got off to a rough start.

From a fantasy perspective, Evans and Samuel should see even more targets and touches in the offense now, while Robinson—who scored a first-half touchdown—is in line for a much bigger role.

If Stribling's injury is a long-term concern, Robinson should be a popular target on waivers this week.
