While Paul lasted longer than expected, he revealed after the fight that he thinks his jaw is broken:
Paul started the fight by taking full advantage of the 22-foot ring. He was on the move for much of the round and didn't land anything of note offensively.
The lack of substance in the early going was frustrating for the crowd. Paul seemed to know that being more active with his feet and avoiding exchanges with the big man were his best shot at getting through the early rounds.
There were a few solid punches from Paul that found a home.
Some gave Paul his credit, but others were critical of Joshua. He has had some questionable performances in his career and failing put Paul away early wasn't in the cards for him.
On multiple occasions Paul went to the ground, although several were ruled as slips. Eventually, the levee broke in the fifth round when it became more apparent that Joshua was knocking Paul down. He officially scored two knockdowns in the fifth frame.
Joshua picked right back up where he left off in the sixth round. He battered an exhausted Paul until he couldn't take anymore and the referee was forced to call an end to the fight.
Joshua, 36, handed Paul his second loss in professional boxing. The YouTuber-turned-boxer had put together a six-fight win streak including victories over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Mike Tyson before taking on the former heavyweight champion.
The victory also regains some momentum for Joshua after losing to Daniel Dubois in his last ring appearance. Joshua fought Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title in September 2024, but was handed a shocking fifth-round knockout loss.
For Joshua, it's fairly clear that this bout was a tune up that could lead to something bigger along the line. Getting a massive United States audience to watch him take down a polarizing figure like Paul will only lead to more paydays.
One specific fight he has in mind is the one he's been chasing for years against fellow British superstar Tyson Fury.
"I wish Usyk knocked him out, he [Fury] needs to be humbled," he told media leading into the fight. "But, I swear, if I ever get the opportunity, I will lay him flat on his back."
After taking care of business against Paul, there would definitely be a market for that fight if Fury wants to come out of retirement.
