Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors on AJ Lee, John Cena's Last Match and More
AJ Lee's return to professional wrestling has been one of the biggest stories of 2025, but what should fans expect from the former Divas champion moving forward?
That topic headlines a collection of insider rumors and reports that also includes backstage reaction to John Cena's last match, as well as a possible new signing for the AEW women's division.
Update on AJ Lee's Status

While answering a question about the ongoing feud between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch, Sean Ross Sapp reported on the December 1 edition of Fightful Raw Review that The Black Widow will "come and go."
Such has been the case thus far since her return in September.
Lee last competed in WWE in 2015 and made her return to the squared circle at Wrestlepalooza in September, when she teamed with husband CM Punk to defeat Seth Rollins and Lynch.
She distracted The Man and cost her the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Maxxine Dupri and then tapped out Lynch in the women's WarGames match at Survivor Series.
One would assume the rivalry with the Irish star will continue, with a potential one-on-one WrestleMania 42 match being on the table based on the booking of that particular feud to this point.
However, Lee making precise and strategic returns instead of being back full-time helps retain the importance of her appearances and never allows her character to become stale.
That benefits Lee and ensures her programs remain as hot as they can be.
Backstage Feelings on John Cena's Last Match

TC of WrestleVotes reported during a Fightful Select WrestleVotes Live Q&A that "there are some people within WWE who 'don't love' the idea of Gunther being John Cena's final opponent, but understand the decision."
The Ring General advanced to the semifinals of The Last Time Is Now Tournament with a grueling victory over Solo Sikoa on Monday's Raw. He will face LA Knight in the tournament finals on the December 8 episode.
It's easy to see why some fans are uneasy about the match, since Gunther would almost certainly beat Cena on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event. The reaction all year suggests those fans are not interested in watching a retiring legend rack up losses on his way out.
With that said, Gunther has already "retired" Goldberg, beating him in his final match in July, and doing the same to Cena would give him another addition to his already impressive resume.
Whether fans in Washington, D.C. for that final match are willing to accept that outcome and greet it warmly is an entirely different question.
A New Signing for AEW Women's Division
3 of 3The AEW women's division has been red-hot of late, and incoming new talent should help it stay that way.
Sapp reported for Fightful Select that the company appears to be in the process of signing Lena Kross.
He wrote: "It would seem that AEW won out in that regard, because word we've got from people in the company is that she's either signed a deal with AEW or will be soon."
Kross previously appeared in TNA and looked to be on her way to that promotion, but that no longer appears to be the case.
The Australian made her in-ring debut in 2017 and has been a rising talent on the independent circuit ever since, making appearances around the globe.
