Opener Stiaan van Zyl was the only victim in the morning session, departing for 34 when he was caught down the leg-side by keeper Liton Das off the off-spin of Mahmudullah.

However, SA lost two balls in the space of three balls after drinks in the afternoon session, with Dean Elgar (47) and Faf du Plessis (48).

They shared a 78-run partnership before Elgar was caught by Das, at the second attempt, off left-arm spinner Taijul Islam and Du Plessis was trapped by lbw after an arm ball from Shakib Al Hasan skidded on.

South Africa went to tea on 165-3 before 19-year-old left-arm paceman Mustafizur produced his incredible spell.

The teenager, who took five-wicket hauls in his first two ODIs, tempted visiting captain Hashim Amla to edge behind and trapped JP Duminy lbw first ball after a successful review.

Quinton de Kock kept out the hat-trick ball, but Mustafizur sent his off-stump cartwheeling next ball as Temba Bavuma watched helplessly from the other end.

Bavuma, replacing batting stalwart AB de Villiers, who has been granted paternity leave, was last man out for 54 as he became Mustafizur’s fourth victim.

Jubair Hossain had picked up three wickets in quick succession before that as the tail failed to wag.

Bangladesh reached 7-0 at stumps in their reply in the first game of the two-match series.
