British Open 2015: Real-Time Leaderboard Updates for Monday Leaders

Sean ODonnellJul 20, 2015

We're in the midst of what is already promising to be an epic final day at The Open Championship.

For the second consecutive round, St. Andrews is boasting some pristine scoring conditions, as the weather has been extremely cooperative. A mild day and a slower Old Course has led to a slew of scores in the red for a Monday finish that began with 27 players within three shots of the lead. Hang on to your hats.

The final group of the tournament is just getting started for the day, as Paul Dunne looks to become the first amateur to win an Open Championship since Bobby Jones in 1930, and Louis Oosthuizen aims to capture his second consecutive Open at St. Andrews. They're being chased by Jordan Spieth, who will look to continue his bid for a calendar Grand Slam and position as the world's No. 1 golfer.

Early Round 4 Recap

While the final round began with Dunne, Spieth and Dustin Johnson garnering all of the headlines, the attention has since shifted to a pair of players who are absolutely lighting up the Old Course on Monday. Zach Johnson and Adam Scott have been playing some inspired golf, and through 11 holes, they sat at six under par for the day and were the tournament's co-leaders.

Johnson was simply on fire on the front nine. After starting the day with a par, he birdied five of the following eight holes to make the turn with a five-under 31. Here's a look at his birdie putt on the ninth hole that moved him to 14 under and gave him the solo lead, via The Open:

Not to be outdone, Scott was just as brilliant on the front nine. He began with a flourish, recording a birdie on the first, and then after three consecutive pars, he rattled off four more birdies over the final five holes to make the turn with a five-under 31. That was good enough to join Johnson atop the leaderboard at 14 under.

Both Johnson and Scott went on to birdie the 10th to move to 15 under and keep their positions above some hard-charging players behind them in the standings.

One player giving some great chase is Spieth. Through six holes, the 21-year-old phenom is three under after birdies on the first, fifth and sixth holes. That moved him to 14 under for the tournament, putting him just one stroke off the pace set by Johnson and Scott. This tweet from PGA Tour sums it up perfectly:

Rory McIlroy may be getting a little nervous about his No. 1 world ranking.

Spieth is joined at 14 under by Jason Day and Oosthuizen, who are both two under for their rounds on Monday. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia and Marc Leishman are playing very well, as each are one stroke further behind at 13 under.

Interestingly enough, two amateurs found themselves in the top 10 early on Monday. Jordan Niebrugge shot a three-under 33 on the front nine to move to 12 under for the tournament. Dunne, on the other hand, started the day in ominous fashion with bogeys on the first and second holes; however, he made up for those hiccups with birdies on the third and fifth. He's now back to 12 under for the tournament and even par for the day.

The low scores just continue to roll in on the Old Course, making for what should be a frenzied conclusion to this year's Open Championship. More than a dozen players are still in contention for the Claret Jug, and we're in for some edge-of-your-seat action while this all plays out.

With that in mind, the Open Championship's playoff format is a four-hole aggregate score. The lowest score after four playoff holes will win the title. If two or more players are still tied after those four holes, a sudden-death format comes into play. Get your popcorn ready.
