British Open 2015: Live Leaderboard Results for Sunday at St. Andrews

Sean ODonnellJul 19, 2015

It's moving day at St. Andrews, and The Open Championship competitors who survived the cut are making the most of the Old Course's favorable conditions.

Thursday was an optimal day for scoring, and we saw plenty of numbers in the red as a result. Things changed Friday and Saturday, as torrential rains and extreme winds caused a total delay of 14 hours, pushing the third round back to Sunday and the final round to Monday as a result. Well, luckily, conditions have since improved.

According to Weather.com, players will see temperatures around 60 degrees with little rain and winds reaching just eight miles per hour throughout Sunday, making the Old Course ripe for some very low numbers. That's been the case early, as some players have already made giant leaps up the standings.

The final group is just about to tee off, and the duo of Dustin Johnson and Danny Willett already have some new company atop the leaderboard. As their rounds get underway, let's take a look at the tournament's updated standings and recap some of Sunday's more notable early action.

Recapping Sunday's Early Action

Before Johnson even had a chance to tee off Sunday, he saw his solo lead vanish, as the hard-charging Eddie Pepperell tied him atop the standings at 10-under par. The Englishman took full advantage of some pristine conditions at St. Andrews and started his move up the leaderboard early in the morning hours.

He got off to a brilliant start, birdieing five of his first six holes to make the turn with a five-under 31. He played the first two rounds at two under par, increasing his total to seven under for the tournament to that point. Pepperell continued his charge on the back nine, birdieing holes 10, 15 and 16 to match Johnson atop the leaderboard.

Unfortunately, his tie for the lead didn't last long. PGA Tour tweeted his mishap one hole later:

Here's a look at Pepperell's awful drive, courtesy of Front9Back9 Golf Blog's Vine account:

That errant tee shot resulted in a double bogey, dropping Pepperell back to eight under for the tournament. Chalk up one more victim for the infamous Road Hole. The Englishman went on to par the 18th hole to finish with a six-under 66 on the day.

Another of Sunday's phenomenal rounds was put together by Marc Leishman. The Aussie played the first two rounds at just one under par, as he followed his opening-round 70 up with a 73 in Round 2. Well, he managed to put together the round of the tournament Sunday, firing an eight-under 64.

Here's some interesting insight at Leishman's sudden turn of form, courtesy of ESPN Stats & Info:

Leishman may not finish the day atop the leaderboard, but he's in great position to contend for the Claret Jug in Monday's final round.

One American who catapulted up the standings Sunday was Rickie Fowler. As we know, he's no stranger to contending late in an Open Championship; just last year he was part of an epic duel with Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia during the final round.

Fowler failed to take advantage of Thursday's great conditions, shooting an even-par 72. He followed that up with a 71 in Round 2 to move to one under for the tournament. Well, he fared far better Sunday, as seven birdies and one bogey led to a six-under 66 to move him to seven under for the tournament.

Golf Central tweeted Fowler's new standing upon the completion of his round:

One more noteworthy mover was Jim Furyk. The American barely made the cut, following up his opening-round 73 with a 71 in Round 2 to just creep over the cut line at even par. Well, he's making the most of his weekend at St. Andrews to this point, as a blemish-free round and six birdies led to a six-under 66 to move him into contention entering the final day.

The tournament's later tee times are just beginning the third round—Jordan Spieth is already two under through five holes—so be sure to continue to check in for leaderboard updates, as we should expect plenty of movement throughout the afternoon.
