5 Predictions on the Road to WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2025
WWE is headed into the final stretch of 2025, with several huge events still remaining, including Survivor Series: WarGames at Petco Park in San Diego.
The home of the San Diego Padres will host the annual premium live event featuring battle inside dueling steel cages on November 29.
However, the focus of the creative team may be pulled elsewhere amid injuries, a high-profile prime-time event in December, and the emergence of a potential breakout main event star.
Dive deeper into each of those topics, and what to watch for on the road to Survivor Series: WarGames in this preview.
We Will Know John Cena's Last Opponent by Survivor Series
1 of 5
While Survivor Series is one of WWE's most important PLEs, there is one event that trumps it in significance this year: John Cena's last match on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.
It will be one of the most important nights in pro wrestling all year and is tracking to be handled more like a major PLE than a one-off prime-time special. As such, who Cena faces in that match will be vital to the execution of the event and the conclusion of his legacy as an in-ring performer.
With so much hype and effort going into making that match as high-profile as it can be, WWE will spend the road to Survivor Series establishing who that opponent will be.
Whether it is through a tournament, a major return, a confrontation in one of Cena's final appearances, or a random match announcement not unlike his showdown with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel, WWE will have The Unseen 17's challenger in place before November 29.
Creative Uncertainty for Raw
2 of 5
The injury sustained by Seth Rollins, which will reportedly require surgery, has caused a major reshuffling of creative plans for WWE Raw.
The Visionary was the face of the red brand, and the character around whom the top of the card was likely to revolve for the foreseeable future.
With the extent of the injury unknown at this time, it's difficult to forecast when Rollins will return and if he will be a key part of the build to WrestleMania 42, but one thing is for sure: WWE officials will have to scurry quickly to determine what the top of the card looks like on the flagship show.
Are Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed ready to become the top heels on the roster, even with Paul Heyman alongside them? Does WWE speed up the Bloodline storyline and introduce a new chapter sooner than expected?
With SmackDown already lacking high-profile heels, does WWE take a big swing with a massive push for someone like Dominik Mysterio? Perhaps it reheats Finn Balor for another marquee run.
Whatever the case, Raw will likely take a few weeks to get back on track while it figures out what the future of the show looks like without Rollins.
Bron Breaks Out
3 of 5
Regardless of whether he assumes the position of top heel on Raw, Bron Breakker is poised to break out as a star on the red brand.
The second-generation star necessitated the breakup of The Vision as we knew it, with his spear to Rollins, and convinced Reed and Heyman to get on board with him.
He looks the part of a headliner, is a freakish athlete the top of the card has not seen since Brock Lesnar rose to prominence in 2002, and he has the pedigree to be a major star for a long time.
While it may be too early for the 27-year-old to become the centerpiece of the main event scene on Monday nights, but his role will expand.
For better or worse, it would not be surprising to see Triple H and his creative team, with their long-term stories in disarray, lean on Breakker and see what they have got in a future headliner.
Could they give him a world title run? With no other options immediately available, it should not be counted out, especially with the original plans appearing to have called for a lengthy run for Rollins.
That may be too much, too soon, but between now and Survivor Series, anything is on the table for Breakker as WWE looks to fill the void left by The Visionary.
Raw Women's Division Prepares for War
4 of 5
Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are in the midst of a rivalry with Asuka and Kairi Sane, while Bayley and Lyra Valkyria are feuding with The Judgment Day's Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez.
Throw in Stephanie Vaquer and potentially Becky Lynch, and you have a star-studded field for the Women's WarGames match at Survivor Series.
The talent involved in that scenario would be off the charts and give the annual contest a shot at being one of the best WarGames matches in recent memory.
Furthermore, it would be a reward for all of the hard work and dedication the women's division has delivered in 2025, becoming one of the most consistently excellent elements of WWE all year.
While it would not main-event the show at this point, it would be a great choice to open the show and set the tone for the rest of the PLE.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre Run It Back
5 of 5
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre had a perfectly fine main event at Wrestlepalooza, but it was considered somewhat disappointing given the quality of their work in other headlining spots.
Friday night on SmackDown, they rekindled that feud, waging war in the closing moments of the show until The American Nightmare hit The Scottish Warrior with the Undisputed WWE Championship and drew a disqualification loss.
The conclusion of the show, with Rhodes standing tall and demanding more of his rival, suggests the issues between them will continue, potentially ending as soon as Saturday Night's Main Event on November 1 or at Survivor Series.
While the argument could be made to capitalize while the rivalry is hot, Survivor Series will need star power up and down the card to maximize audience excitement.
Booking that match there, even if it's not the main event, is a great use of both men and should result in a far better contest than we had on September 20.
