Bortles Comments on Injured Shoulder

Wednesday, Oct. 14

Bortles spoke with reporters on Wednesday and said his shoulder feels "fine," saying he plans on playing in Week 6 against the Houston Texans.

Bortles Searching for Consistency

The second-year signal-caller appeared in 14 games as a rookie, including 13 starts. However, that stretch didn't come and go without an injury scare.

Last December, Bortles suffered a right midfoot sprain that nearly prevented him from making a late-season appearance against the Tennessee Titans

During the 2014 season, Bortles struggled with consistency, throwing for 2,908 yards, 11 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 58.9 percent of his passes. Over the course of his final seven appearances, the former Central Florida Knight threw for just three touchdowns and four picks on what was then the league's second-youngest team.

However, Bortles entered his second season with a better understanding of the Jaguars' scheme and more refined mechanics.

"From where he's at now compared to where he came in last year as a rookie, I think it's night and day," Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said, according to ESPN's Mike DiRocco.
