British Open 2015 Tee Times: Full List of Pairings and Schedule Info for Sunday

Stuart NewmanJul 19, 2015

The third round of this year’s Open Championship unconventionally gets underway on Sunday, with American Dustin Johnson leading the pack at the halfway point.

Johnson shot a three-under 69 to move top of the pile on 10 under par and one shot ahead of Danny Willett, who’ll be playing with the major nearly man in Round 3.

Both players have enjoyed flawless golf thus far, and they’ll look to kick on going out last behind a heavily congested field. Here’s a look at the leaderboard from St. Andrews together with pairings for Sunday’s play:

Can Johnson Finally Cross the Line?

When Johnson surrendered a maiden major title at the U.S. Open last month by fluffing his lines on the final green, many believed he’d be just another one of those players who’d never write his name in the major history books.

However, he’s responded to his critics in quite remarkable style—by playing exceptional golf even in the most difficult conditions.

You may think the 31-year-old is all about power and booming the ball off the tee, but think again. In truth, Johnson is one of the most adaptable players in the game—perfect for Open Championship glory.

And so he’s proved in the opening two rounds alongside tournament favourite Jordan Spieth, who currently sits five shots back on five under par.

Playing with his friend Spieth seems to bring the best out of Johnson, so how he’ll fare alongside Willett on Sunday will be interesting.

Still, American golfer Rich Beem believes that Johnson can win at St. Andrews, as he said in his Sky Sports blog:

"I still believe Dustin will win his majors, there's no doubt in my mind. And we could see this happen as soon as Sunday. This golf course is tailor-made for him. He can hit it low, flat, high, soft—whatever shot he needs to do, he is capable of hitting."

Plus, Johnson has history on his side heading into the final two rounds on the famous Old Course, as The Open revealed:

However, he has an incredibly talented chasing pack behind him looking to spoil the party.

The likes of Spieth, Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwartzel are on five under, while the threatening Aussie force of Jason Day and Adam Scott are two shots better off and targeting a surge up the leaderboard.

Scott will be paired with Zach Johnson for Round 3, having proved on Friday that he has what it takes to storm to the top of the tree.

His five-under 67 in the second round featured no bogeys, and he finally looked at one with the greens after struggling for consistency on the opening day.

Garcia is another man who looks like threatening a charge, as his birdie-birdie finish in the unforgiving elements on Saturday evening propelled him up the leaderboard.

The Spaniard has always been one of the best ball-strikers in the business—it’s all just a case of how he performs with the flat stick. However, he seems to be rolling it well, and his love for the Open could well spur him on to glory:

Plus, by playing with Spieth, he’s got the perfect man to show him the way to hole out.

You can’t discount old-timer Paul Lawrie from the prospective winner’s circle, either, as he’s looked every bit as solid in 2015’s tournament as he did during his 1999 victory.

The Scot carded a two-under 70 to move into third place on his own after Round 2, and he’ll undoubtedly enjoy the thunderous support playing alongside countryman Marc Warren on Sunday.

The unpredictable nature of the Open at St. Andrews means that any man can win, and with the wind believed to be easing off on Sunday, there could be a very low score out there.

Johnson looks like he can keep his cool and push toward the Claret Jug, but the talented crop of players behind him will have other ideas. It’s about to get exciting on the Old Course.
