Police Will Investigate Video of Terence Crawford Being Held At Gunpoint by Officer
Police in Omaha have launched an investigation after video emerged showing boxing champion Terence Crawford being held at gunpoint by an officer during a traffic stop.
On Sunday, Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer issued a joint statement providing details on the incident:
Per Austin Nivison of CBS Sports, video of the traffic stop was posted on TikTok and Crawford is seen exiting the vehicle with both of his hands in the air. Another voice from someone in the vehicle is heard saying, "I'm not reaching for no gun."
According to the joint statement from Ewing and Schmaderer, Crawford was stopped for allegedly reckless driving around 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday morning.
When the officer approached the vehicle to speak to the driver, a firearm was seen on the driver's side floorboard at which point all four occupants in the vehicle were "ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint."
The statement also notes that all occupants of the vehicle were "legally permitted to carry firearms." Crawford was issued a citation for reckless driving.
Crawford, who is from Omaha, was in the city on Saturday for a parade to honor him following his historic victory over Canelo Alvarez to win the undisputed super middleweight title on Sept. 13.
One week after his victory, Crawford led the Nebraska football team onto the field prior to the Sept. 20 game against Michigan.
