Open Championship 2015: Projecting Daily Score Totals for Golf's Top Favorites

Steve SilvermanJul 15, 2015

The golf world is waiting with bated breath for the start of the British Open.

The feeling is much like it was in 2002, when Tiger Woods won the first two majors of the year and then went to the British Open with the hope of making it 3-for-3.

Tiger was in peak form 13 years ago, but he was unable to accomplish his goal. Now Jordan Spieth has the opportunity to walk a path that few have ever dreamed of taking.

We are about to ruin the drama. Not only will we give you the rundown on what Spieth will shoot for each of the four rounds, but we also will provide the scores for the other top favorites in the tournament the rest of the world refers to as The Open Championship

All odds courtesy of Odds Shark.

Jordan Spieth (9-2): While Spieth has a brilliant game on the course, his mental approach may be even more impressive. He has shown the ability to keep his cool when a championship has been within his grasp. That's rare for any player, let alone those who have not even reached the age of 22 (that will come later this month).

The pressure will be greater at the British Open than it has ever been for Spieth. It was impressive to run away with the Masters, and pulling out the U.S. Open at challenging Chambers Bay was an even bigger achievement. However, to win the British Open would be a shocker. Look for Spieth to play well through 36 holes, but he won't be able to hold it together in the final two rounds.

Predicted score: 70-69-74-73=286 (10th place)

Dustin Johnson (11-1): Johnson faced heartbreak at Chambers Bay when he missed an eagle putt that would have given him the U.S. Open championship and inexplicably missed a short birdie putt that would have put him in a playoff with Spieth.

It has obviously been difficult to live with that defeat, but Johnson gets a chance to turn it around at St. Andrews. He is the biggest hitter on the tour, and if he can keep it together on the fairway, he will have a chance to make amends.

Predicted score: 68-72-71-71=282 (third place)

Rickie Fowler (16-1): Fowler has a lot to prove after failing to make the cut at the U.S. Open. He wants to show that he is the golfer who won the Players Championship and the Scottish Open, not the golfer that was flailing away at Chambers Bay.

Fowler is a clever and creative player, and if he gets off to a good start, he will stay in contention for four rounds. This should be an opportunity for Fowler to put his imprint on the most august of tournaments.

Predicted score: 71-68-70-74=283 (fourth place)

Justin Rose (18-1): While Rose is English, not Scottish, he has a chance to be the local favorite in the British Open. Rose has won more than $3 million on the tour this season, and he has one victory at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans to his credit along with two second-place finishes.

Rose is consistent and can be very tough to stop when he gets on a roll. He averages 4.47 birdies per round, which ranks third on the tour.

Predicted score: 67-71-72-71=281 (second place)

Adam Scott (20-1): It's hard to find fault with a player who may have the sweetest swing in the game of golf. Scott is a former Masters winner, and there isn't a shot he can't hit with power and a deft touch.

He knows how to finish a tournament in style. When he won the Masters in 2013, he did it by sinking a difficult birdie putt in a playoff. Scott knows how to come through under pressure, and he will do it at St. Andrews.

Predicted score: 69-72-70-67=278 (first place)
