Senior British Open 2025 Dates, Tee Times, TV Info, Prize Money
This past weekend, Scottie Scheffler made more history by winning the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. The victory, which came via a dominant final round, marked the fourth major win of Scheffler's career and the third leg of a career grand slam.
Scheffler can complete the grand slam with a win at the U.S. Open—a tournament in which he has had four top-10 finishes.
It's not hyperbole to suggest that Scheffler has become the biggest star in the sport and a force not wholly unlike peak Tiger Woods. The 29-year-old is, unquestionably, at the top of today's proverbial mountain.
This weekend, though, the golfing world will shift its focus away from Scheffler and other current stars and toward some of the sport's legends. This weekend, The Senior Open Championship will unfold at Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England.

While serious golf fans may be familiar with the Senior Open, more casual fans may not. The tournament, which debuted in 1987 at Turnberry golf resort, is for professional golfers aged 50 and over. Jointly owned and organized by the R&A and the PGA European Tour, The Senior Open was first considered a major on the Champions Tour in 2003.
The Tradition, Senior PGA Championship, U.S. Senior Open and Kaulig Companies Championship (formerly the Senior Players Championship) are the other four majors. The U.S. Senior Open was the most recent, though both it and the Kaulig were played in June.
Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who won the Kaulig, and U.S. Senior Open champion Pádraig Harrington are both scheduled to be in this weekend's field and, unsurprisingly, are among the early favorites. Defending champion K.J. Choi is also slated to compete at Sunningdale, as are newcomers David Howell and Stephen Gallacher.
While the tournament will feature an older overall age group than the PGA, DP World Tour or LIV Golf, fans can expect an extremely high level of competition. Many of the top competitors are former major winners, including Harrington, who won the 2008 PGA Championship and twice won (2007, 2008) the Open Championship.
"It validates the past in a lot of ways," Harrington said, per Eddie Pells of the Associated Press. "You're reliving the past glories, hitting shots, waving at the crowds. People are coming out because they know you from the past."
This will mark the fourth time that Sunningdale has hosted the Senior Open. The Old Course, which was founded in 1900, most recently played host in 2021, when Stephen Dodd held off Jiménez for a one-stroke victory.
Choi took home $447,800 of a $2.78 million prize pool for winning last year's tournament. This year's pool has risen to $2.85 million, and all prize money will be considered official for both the PGA Tour Champions series and the European Senior Tour. In addition to earning the winner's share, the Senior Open Champion will also earn an exemption to next year's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.
