Scottie Scheffler's second major victory of 2025 at The Open Championship essentially ensures him of being the top seed in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Scheffler's win at Royal Portrush moved him over 1,300 points ahead of Rory McIlroy in the race to the PGA Tour's postseason.
Scheffler must be considered the favorite to win the FedEx Cup because of his triumphs at The Open and PGA Championship.

Scheffler had the Claret Jug wrapped up fairly early on Sunday.
The now four-time major champion started his round with three birdies on the first five holes.
By the time he committed his one major mistake, a double bogey on the eighth hole, Scheffler already had a multi-shot advantage built over everyone else in the field.
The back nine at Royal Portrush served as a coronation stage for the world's No. 1 golfer. He rolled in eight pars and a birdie at the 12th hole to reach the winning score of 17-under.
Harris English was the golfer who got closest to Scheffler in the end with a 13-under score for the tournament. English was also the runner-up to Scheffler at the PGA Championship.
Third-place finisher Chris Gotterup was the surprise name on the final leaderboard. The winner at last week's Scottish Open played in his first Open Championship this week. He made the jump up 23rd in the FedEx Cup standings after his impressive two-week swing overseas.
Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for seventh in his home country of Northern Ireland. The finish was enough to put him almost 1,000 points ahead of Sepp Straka for second in the FedEx Cup standings.
McIlroy won The Players Championship and the Masters. Scheffler took home a pair of major titles.
The expectation is that most of August will be a duel across three events between McIlroy and Scheffler for the FedEx Cup.
