Mets' Kirk Nieuwenhuis Hits 3 Home Runs vs. Diamondbacks
After being called up on Monday to help bolster the bench, New York Mets left fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis wasted little time in showing the club that it made the right choice.
Nieuwenhuis entered Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks having hit 13 home runs in 241 career games over parts of four seasons, hitting three dingers in each of the past two seasons.
Well, he matched both of those totals on Sunday.

Nieuwenhuis clubbed three home runs in his first three at-bats against Arizona, with two coming against Diamondbacks starter Rubby De La Rosa. His first home run put the Mets on the scoreboard after replay confirmed that it was in fact a homer.
In the third inning, Nieuwenhuis got to De La Rosa again. This time, he belted a deep shot to left-center that drove in two runs.
Arizona brought in Randall Delgado to pitch the fifth inning. New pitcher, same result.
As ESPN Stats & Info noted, this is the first time a Mets player has hit three home runs in a game at home:
Nieuwenhuis had a chance for No. 4 in the seventh inning but struck out.
