Bangladesh vs. South Africa, 2nd ODI: Winners and Losers
Bangladesh bounced back in their three-match ODI series against South Africa with a seven-wicket win on Sunday. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, South Africa were dismissed for just 162. Bangladesh chased down the total with 134 balls to spare in a convincing win. We've picked some winners and losers from Sunday's match, add yours in the comments.
Winners: Mustafizur Rahman and Nasir Hossain
1 of 6
Mustafizur Rahman is making a name for himself at the international level, and he showed why once again against South Africa on Sunday. His nippy off cutters led to the demise of a number of South African batsmen, and his 40 dot balls in 10 overs helped Bangladesh significantly.
Nasir Hossain was equally impressive. The pair took six wickets between them and turned the tables on a team that had dominated them since their arrival in Bangladesh.
Losers: South Africa's Batsmen
2 of 6
With the exception of Faf du Plessis (and only at a push), South Africa’s batting was poor on Sunday. Having won the toss and electing to bat on a sticky pitch, South Africa should have done better. Bangladesh’s bowlers did well, but quite a few wickets fell because of dubious shot selection and a lack of patience in building partnerships when the screws of pressure were turning.
Loser: South Africa’s Petulance
3 of 6
South Africa’s players were getting a bit “stroppy teenager” when it looked like they would lose. Rilee Rossouw shouldered Tamim Iqbal, and the umpires had to have a word with Hashim Amla. Quinton de Kock got a talking-to from umpire Richard Illingworth, and JP Duminy had a whine at umpire Enamul Haque for signalling four when it was byes.
There will always be a bit of argy-bargy when the going gets tough, but South Africa were unnecessarily petulant on Sunday. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a few match fees go missing after South Africa’s behaviour in this match.
Loser: South Africa’s Fielding
4 of 6
South Africa have long been touted as one of the best fielding sides in the world, but when it rains, it pours.
During the 21st over, Soumya Sarkar hit Farhaan Behardien straight up in the air with Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada and Quinton de Kock all able to take the catch. Nobody ended up taking the straightforward catch because there was no communication. Du Plessis and Rabada watched in agony as the ball plopped down between them.
Winner: Soumya Sarkar

When Bangladesh get under a team’s skin, they don’t let up. They didn't against Pakistan and India, and on Sunday, they didn't let up against South Africa. Soumya Sarkar played a crucial part in it all, hitting an unbeaten 88 off 79 and finishing the chase with a six. It showed that despite South Africa getting the better of them in T20s and the first ODI, they are still a team on the up.
Winner: Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy Qualification
6 of 6
Corner a tiger and it will respond. When Bangladesh beat India a few weeks ago, they were certain they had sealed qualification for the 2017 Champions Trophy. Then news came that a tri-series between Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India had been confirmed, putting their qualification in doubt.
They went into the three-match ODI series against South Africa needing just one win to ensure their qualification (again), and now they have it.
