Liv Morgan Injury Timeline and Latest Backstage Report

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Monday was a rough night for Liv Morgan, who suffered a dislocated shoulder almost immediately when her match against Kairi Sane began.

The injury occurred when Morgan appeared to land wrong when Sane went for a takedown. She immediately rolled out of the ring and the match was stopped.

Per PW Insider (h/t WrestleOps), depending on the severity of the injury, Morgan could be sidelined for "upwards of 16 weeks" before she is cleared for athletic activity. The report also noted the incident was seen as an accident and no one has any heat backstage.

Not that there is ever a good time for an injury, but this one is particularly frustrating for Morgan. She was poised to start a feud with Nikki Bella after their confrontation on Raw last week, presumably leading to a match at the Evolution event on July 13.

It's perhaps notable that Nikki Bella teased an appearance on Monday's show after being attacked by Morgan last week, but she wound up not being used at all. Morgan did say in her promo to open the show that Bella was at home recovering, so it's also possible WWE changed plans to have Nikki on this week even before Liv got injured.

This also leaves Morgan's status for SummerSlam (Aug. 2-3) in doubt. It also opens up the possibility that the women's tag titles, which have been held by Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez since April 21, will either be vacated or Rodriguez will get a new partner.

Giulia Reportedly Set for Big Push

Just over one month after being officially added to the SmackDown roster, Giulia could be in line for a significant push very soon.

Per PWInsider.com (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Giulia is strongly believed to be set for a "major spotlight" by other talent within WWE.

Details of Giulia's push are unclear at this point, though she did attack Zelina Vega following the U.S. women's champion's victory over Piper Niven on the June 6 episode of SmackDown and held up the title at the end of the segment.

It's been a slow start for Giulia since being called up to the main roster. The Beautiful Madness did pin Vega in a triple-threat match that also involved Charlotte Flair last month to qualify for the Money in the Bank match.

Since that win, though, Giulia's only singles match was a victory over B-Fab last week on Main Event. Given that she has pinned the U.S. women's champ and subsequently attacked her in a different angle, she is at least deserving of a shot at the title.

If WWE wants to elevate Giulia without putting her in the main-event mix at this point, a feud with Vega that ends with her winning the championship would be a good plan.

Carlito Calls Out How WWE Handled Exit

Days after his contract with WWE expired, Carlito expressed unhappiness about how his second run with with the promotion came to an end.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio (h/t Carrier), Carlito felt WWE's handling of the situation was "disrespectful" in part because there was no payoff to his association with the Judgment Day:

"I wasn’t too surprised or too shocked, you know what I mean? I signed for two years and it actually went better than I, than I thought it would go. The only thing is like, you know, the only thing is I’m a professional, you know what I mean? They could have told me and I would, you know, OK, then at least let me finish up the story for the Judgment Day so they can keep on going. You know what I mean? It’s, you know, I don’t know why do something where it, it, you know, to, I think it’s a disrespect to the fans that, you know what I mean, that they something that just dropped the storylines."

Carlito revealed on June 1 that his contract was coming up and WWE wasn't going to renew it. That was the same day R-Truth announced his deal was expiring, though he was later re-signed due to fan support.

WWE brought Carlito back for a one-off appearance as a surprise entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble. He was later used at the Backlash event in Puerto Rico in May 2023, helping the Latino World Order and Bad Bunny defeat Damian Priest.

Carlito signed a full-time contract with WWE soon after that appearance. He was originally aligned with the LWO before turning heel soon after WrestleMania XL. The Puerto Rican star joined The Judgment Day last summer and remained a member of the stable until his deal expired.

WWE wasn't really using Carlito much on television this year. His only televised match was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal that took place on the April 18 episode of SmackDown.

Even though Carlito has some justification to be upset that he never got to finish out a proper storyline, it's not a surprise WWE decided not to renew his contract since creative didn't seem to have many ideas for his character.
