Sam Burns Holds On To Lead
3 of 5
Sam Burns dealt with Saturday's pressure well.
The American held on to the lead thanks to a one-under 69.
Burns rolled in three birdies, including one on the 17th hole, in a round where he only gave two shots back to the course.
Burns has shot six-under in the last two rounds to get to his spot at four-under.
The real test for Burns comes on Sunday, when he has to defend a lead at a major tournament at an incredibly tough course.
Burns has handled the pressure well so far, but he hasn't felt the leading pressure on a Sunday at a major yet in his career.
Adam Scott In Contention After Third-Round 67
4 of 5
Adam Scott is the only previous major champion inside the top 10 going into Sunday.
The 2013 Masters champion carded a three-under 67 to move up into contention. He rolled in three birdies in a five-hole stretch on the back nine, starting with one on the par-three 13th.
Scott's been one of the steadier golfers around Oakmont all week. He produced a pair of even-par 70s on Thursday and Friday.
Scott is in position for just his second top-10 major finish since 2020, but he also has the major-winning experience that no one else has within seven shots of the leaders.
Spaun and Burns each have one round with a lower score compared to Scott this week, but the lengthy experience of the Australian could turn out to be a X-factor on a major Sunday packed with pressure.
Scottie Scheffler Battles for Even Par Round
5 of 5
Scottie Scheffler had to battle just to record an even-par round on Saturday.
The 2025 PGA champion carded four bogeys and four birdies in his third rip around Oakmont.
Scheffler's round almost came undone on the last two holes of the front nine, when he bogeyed the eighth and ninth.
Scheffler rallied back with a pair of pars to start the back nine and then a birdie at the 12th.
He wasn't able to create any momentum after the 12th hole, but he did have a nice finish with a birdie on 17 and a par at the 18th.
Scheffler seems to be out of the mix right now, but a low Sunday round combined with some errors from the guys at the top could make things interesting for him.
