WWE Icon The Rock to Induct Mark Kerr into UFC Hall of Fame Ahead of Movie Release
Before he portrays Mark Kerr on the silver screen, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will help honor the retired UFC fighter.
Kerr will enter the UFC Hall of Fame through its Pioneer wing, and Johnson will help to deliver his induction speech on June 26, per ESPN's Andreas Hale.
"Mark Kerr was a high-level wrestler who also fought for PRIDE and was one of the early pioneers of the sport," UFC president Dana White said.
Kerr was 15-11 with four knockouts and seven submission victories. He competed in two UFC events, winning the heavyweight tournaments at UFC 14 and 15 in 1997. Hale noted Royce Gracie, Mark Coleman, Dan Severn and Don Frye the other four fighters to reign supreme at multiple UFC tournaments, and they're all Hall of Famers.
The 56-year-old was a decorated freestyle wrestler, too, winning a national championship at Syracuse in 1992 and earning a gold medal in the 1994 Wrestling World Cup.
His Hall of Fame induction will come a few months before the worldwide release of The Smashing Machine, a movie based on his life and MMA career. A 2002 documentary of the same name also detailed Kerr's journey.
Johnson plays Kerr in the lead role for the feature film, which will hit theaters on Oct. 3.
