Belmont Stakes Picks, 2025 Vegas Odds and Predictions After Post Draw
The final race of the 2025 Triple Crown series, the Belmont Stakes, is set to unfold on Saturday. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year, though fans have known that since early May.
Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty was held out of the Preakness Stakes by trainer Bill Mott so that the team could focus strictly on the Belmont.
However, fans could well see a horse win two out of three, as Preakness winner Journalism will also be in the eight-horse field. And we have a little bit better idea of how that field stacks up after Monday's post draw.
Here, you'll find a look at the post positions, updated odds and a few predictions.

While fans would likely find the Belmont more intriguing if the Triple Crown was on the line, another battle between Sovereignty and Journalism does carry some drama. Journalism entered the Derby as the favorite but finished second before beating a Preakness field that did not feature Sovereignty.
It won't be a two-horse race, of course, and Rodriguez and Baeza loom as potential contenders.
Baeza finished third at the Kentucky Derby and second to Journalism at the Santa Anita Derby. A strong start should put Baeza in the mix again, and trainer John Shirreffs believes his horse is being overlooked.
"They are forgetting about Baeza," Shirreffs said, per Bob Ehalt of Bloodhorse. "In the Santa Anita Derby, he didn't have the best of trips, either. And obviously in the Kentucky Derby, he never got to the outside when he needed to."
Rodriguez, trained by Bob Baffert, was expected to be a Kentucky Derby contender but missed that race and the Preakness with a foot ailment. The Wood Memorial winner will be guided by jockey Mike Smith, who has already won the Belmont three times.
Horses who didn't run at the Preakness have seemed to hold an edge in recent years. This is likely because of the condensed timeline between the three Triple Crown races and because the Belmont has traditionally been the longest of the three.
With Belmont Park undergoing renovations, the race will be held at Saratoga, as it was in 2024. That means the Belmont will feature the same 1 1⁄4-mile length as the Kentucky Derby instead of the usual 1 1⁄2-mile length.
Even with a shorter course, fatigue could still be a factor for Journalism—which will be the only horse to run in all three races this year—though trainer Michael McCarthy believes his horse will be ready to run.
"He’s enjoying himself up here. I think he’s very relaxed," McCarthy said, per Sean Collins of Bloodhorse.
The prediction here is that Journalism breaks well from the No. 7 post, helps to provide another exciting finish and narrowly edges Sovereignty in an epic rematch.
Projected Finish
- Journalism
- Sovereignty
- Rodriguez
