Joey Chestnut Breaks Popcorn Eating Record on Video, Eats 42 Servings in 8 Minutes

Andrew PetersMay 26, 2025

Most professional athletes reach a certain age and start to decline, but Joey Chestnut is only getting better with age.

The legendary professional eater broke his own popcorn-eating record on Monday, downing 42 24-ounce servings in just eight minutes. Chestnut previously set the record for popcorn eating with 28.5, but he broke that record in 2022 when he ate 32 servings. Now he's broken his record once again.

He broke the record at the Joey Chestnut X Rural King Popcorn Showdown in South Terre Haute, Indiana, on Monday.

Chestnut said that the last time he broke the popcorn-eating record, it almost cost him a tooth because of the kernels. He took a different approach this time around, and it clearly worked out.

“It’s going to be a pretty intense world record attempt,” Chestnut told On3's Brian Jones before the event. “The record is pretty high, 32 servings in eight minutes. I’m going to have to stay in my rhythm and not let the kernels of popcorn affect me. The last time I did it, I almost broke a tooth. So I think the little things they’re doing, I think I’m confident they’re going to do a good job not giving me any unpopped kernels.”

Chestnut's bread and butter is hot dogs as he's won 16 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contests, but popcorn and other foods are no match for him now that he's claimed more than 55 world records in eating.

Chestnut has long established himself as the GOAT of professional eating. At this point, he's just taking victory laps.
