Coco Gauff fell short in her bid to play for a second U.S. Open title Thursday night in Queens.

Gauff won her first set of the semifinal before Elena Rybakina came back to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Rybakina, who has already clinched a spot as the WTA's top-ranked player, will now advance to face Aryna Sabalenka in this Saturday for the U.S. Open title.

Gauff dominated Thursday's first set in front of an appreciative crowd at Arthur Ashe.

Rybakina took an early lead in the second set before Gauff came back to even the score at 4-4.

After Rybakina earned two break points, Gauff put a forehand into the net to send the game to a deciding third set.

Gauff again evened the third set at 3-3 but was unable to complete her comeback before Rybakina closed out the win.

Gauff became the first American teen to win the U.S. Open when she defeated Sabalenka in the 2023 final.

She was eliminated from the 2024 and 2025 tournaments in the Round of 16, then made it back to the semis in 2026 following a comeback quarterfinal win over Mirra Andreeva.

Sabalenka earned her spot in a fourth straight U.S. Open final with a Thursday night win over Jessica Pegula.

She will look to win the tournament for a third straight year when she faces Rybakina, who will be playing in her first U.S. Open final, this Saturday in Queens.
