Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F1 Car Sets Record With Historic $18M Sale at Auction
A piece of Formula 1 history was sold at a serious price on Saturday.
Per The Athletic's Alex Kalinauckas, Michael Schumacher's Ferrari that he drove to win the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix and Hungarian Grand Prix sold at auction for $18.17 million. That figure makes it the most expensive car driven by Schumacher to be sold at auction.
The car was sold by RM Sotheby's at an event in Monaco on Saturday before qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.

According to Kalinauckas, bidding for the car started at €8 million ($9.09 million at current conversion rates) and the winning bid was €14.2 million—the total being €15.98m ($18.17 million) after fees.
Schumacher's 2003 Ferrari F2003 sold for $13.2 million in 2022 and was the most-expensive of his cars sold until Saturday. Kalinauckas noted that the car sold on Saturday was previously sold for $7.5 million in 2017.
The most expensive F1 car ever sold was the Mercedes W196 streamliner driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. That vehicle was sold for $52.52 million earlier this year. Schumacher's car sold on Saturday is the fourth-most expensive F1 car ever sold.
Schumacher—who last raced in F1 in 2012—won seven F1 championships across his career, including five consecutive from 2000 to 2004.
