FIFA President Says Cristiano Ronaldo Could Possibly Play in 2025 Club World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo could play in the 2025 Club World Cup, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
“Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup,” Infantino said during a livestream. “There are discussions.”
Ronaldo currently plays for Al Nassr, which did not qualify for the tournament. Representatives of Ronaldo are "unhappy" about the comments made by Infantino regarding his future, per The Athletic's Guillermo Rai and Adam Crafton.
After Al Nassr finished fourth in the Saudi Pro League, questions have been raised about his future in the league.
“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup…who knows, who knows,” Infantino continued.
The revamped Club World Cup unanimously approved a proposal allowing national associations to create an “exceptional registration window” between June 1 and 10, enabling teams in the tournament to make transfers beforehand.
Featuring 32 teams—including Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and Ronaldo's former team Real Madrid—Infantino said an epic matchup between the clubs could happen, per Rai and Crafton.
The Club World Cup begins June 14 and runs through July 13 in the United States.
