Friday Games
Ole Miss started with a bang, putting five runs on the board before Arkansas even had a chance to pat.
Second baseman Judd Utermark and right fielder Ryan Moerman delivered RBI singles before catcher Austin Fawley went deep for a three-run homer.
Thanks to some strong pitching, those five runs held up.
Arkansas got one back on a fielder's choice in the first and saw Cam Kozeal lead off the bottom of the second with an inside-the-park home run. Moerman and Rebels center fielder Isaac Humphrey collided while trying to make the catch, which allowed Kozeal to round the bases.
Moerman exited and made way for Hayden Federico in right.
Ole Miss starter Riley Maddox settled down after that. In 5.2 innings of work, he allowed three hits and fanned seven batters.
Mason Morris wriggled out of a serious jam he inherited in the seventh inning. Charles Davalan doubled for Arkansas to put runners on second and third with one out. Morris struck out Wehiwa Aloy and got Logan Maxwell to fly out to right to strand two runners in scoring position.
That was after Arkansas couldn't make the most of a bases loaded situation with two outs in the sixth.
Connor Spencer came on for the Rebels in the ninth. The senior right-hander set down Gabe Fraser, Reese Robinett and Kendall Diggs in order to earn the save.
In the second game, LSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings but held on late for the 4-3 victory.
LSU designated hitter Ethan Frey hit an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third inning to carry the Tiger offense. The Tigers' other run was courtesy of a Luis Hernandez RBI groundout in the first.
The Aggies fought back in the fourth when Jace LaViolette hit an RBI single before Gavin Kash's sac fly cut the lead to 4-2.
LaViolette added his own sac fly in the sixth to slash the deficit to 4-3, but there wasn't any more scoring from there.
LSU starting pitcher Kade Anderson starred on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings for the win while allowing four hits, a walk and three earned runs.
Anthony Eyanson shut the door in relief over the final three innings, striking out four to earn the save while allowing just two hits and a walk.
It did get a little hairy for LSU in the ninth after a walk and a single put runners on the corners with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the game.
