Boxer Georgia O'Connor Dies at Age 25 After Cancer Diagnosis
Undefeated professional boxer Georgia O'Connor died at the age of 25.
Per the BBC, O'Connor announced her cancer diagnosis earlier this year following a battle with ulcerative colitis.
O'Connor was signed to promoter Ben Shalom's Boxxer since the start of her professional career.
"We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O'Connor. A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing community has lost a talented, courageous and determined young woman far too soon," Boxxer said in a statement. "Georgia was loved, respected and admired by her friends here at Boxxer. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time."
O'Connor had an impressive amateur career at the junior level, which included a gold medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, silver at the 2017 Youth World Championships and bronze at the 2018 Youth World Championships. After turning professional in 2021, she won all three of her fights. She most recently competed in 2022.
"A gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur boxing community, she won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Worlds and European Championships," England Boxing said in a tribute to O'Connor.
Earlier this month, O'Connor announced that she had married her partner Adriano Cardinali.
Fighters like Jack Catterall, Molly McCann and Chantelle Cameron paid tribute to O'Connor following the news of her passing.
