2026 QB Travis Burgess Commits to UNC, 'Coach Belichick Will Turn This Program Around'
North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick might have his quarterback of the future.
"Coach Belichick will turn this program around in the next year or two," quarterback prospect Travis Burgess said Wednesday when committing to the Tar Heels over Auburn, NC State and Wisconsin, per Steve Wiltfong of On 3. "And I want to be a part of that legacy and help turn it around! The TB legacy will continue, go Tar Heels."
According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Burgess is a 3-star prospect and the No. 30 quarterback in the class of 2026.
It is impossible not to notice his message that the "TB legacy will continue" as he partners with Belichick.
After all, Tom Brady is widely considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history and famously won six Super Bowls together with Belichick on the New England Patriots.
While nobody expects Burgess to be Brady, he clearly isn't backing down from high expectations.
Wiltfong noted he completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,225 yards, 23 touchdowns and four interceptions to go with 596 yards and four scores as a runner during his junior campaign in high school.
Burgess' ability to impact the game multiple ways will help the Tar Heels keep their offense open if he does eventually take over as the team's starting quarterback down the line.
Belichick has quite the rebuilding job ahead of him, as North Carolina has finished with double-digit wins just once since the 1997 campaign. It was just 6-7 overall and 3-5 in ACC play during the 2024 season and is looking up at programs such as SMU, Clemson, Miami, Louisville and others in the conference.
But success on the recruiting trail is the quickest way to turn things around in college football, and the legendary head coach found some with Burgess.
