California 12, Miami 2 (F/8)
The Cal Golden Bears won their first-ever ACC Tournament game in grand fashion, defeating Miami via the run rule in eight innings.
Catcher Alex Birge had a huge day, going 4-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs. Cal opened things up with a seven-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
The Golden Bears will move on to the second round for a showdown against Wake Forest, which is seeded eighth in this year's tournament.
Virginia Tech 7, Stanford 4
The other West Coast team in action on Tuesday wasn't as successful, as Stanford was eliminated by Virginia Tech with a 7-4 loss.
The two teams went back and forth before the Hokies pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning. A strong defensive effort stopped the Cardinal from putting more runs on the board.
Following the impressive win, the Hokies will take on fifth-seeded Clemson in the second round on Wednesday.
Pitt 13, Louisville 11
The third game of the day was an offensive explosion, as Pitt outlasted Louisville 13-11.
Louisville pushed across five runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 11, but Luke Cantwell played the role of hero with the go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth that proved to be the difference.
Lorenzo Carrier and Jayden Melendez also went deep for the victors with the former driving in five runs in a dominant performance.
That was just enough run support for Pitt to advance and set up a showdown with Duke.
Boston College 5, Notre Dame 4 (F/10)
Patrick Roche's go-ahead single in the top of the 10th inning was the difference for Boston College in a 5-4 win over Notre Dame in the nightcap on Tuesday.
Sam McNulty led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball, allowing him to come around to score in Roche's liner back up the middle.
Gavin Soares was terrific in relief for Boston College. The freshman right-hander tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. He closed out the game by getting Nick DeMarco to groundout.
The Irish started the game with three of their first four hitters reaching base, highlighted by Parker Brzustewicz's ground-rule double that opened the scoring. They added another run to take a 2-0 lead after the opening frame.
Boston College responded right away thanks to Kyle Wolff's three-run homer off Rory Fox. The Eagles added a fourth run in the top of the third to go up 4-2.
Notre Dame came back with singles runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the score.
Both bullpens were outstanding throughout the game. Four relievers combined to allow two runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts in 10 innings.
The win sends Boston College into the second round and a date with No. 6 Virginia on Wednesday. The Eagles took two out of three games in the regular season against their ACC rival in Virginia.
