Preakness 2025 Lineup, Full Race Guide for All Horses and Jockeys
The buildup to the 2025 Preakness Stakes is similar to the talk about the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago.
Journalism and Sandman are once again at the forefront of the conversation, but there is one major difference.
Derby winner Sovereignty will not chase the Triple Crown.
Journalism took second behind Sovereignty two weeks ago and he enters Pimlico Race Course as the clear Preakness favorite without the Derby winner in the nine-horse field.

Race Guide
Journalism has a second chance to claim glory in a Triple Crown race as the Preakness favorite.
The horse coming out of Post No. 2 is the most decorated horse in the field and should stand out among the pack.
A handful of other horses are listed below 10-1, but Journalism stands out among the pack with his four wins in five races.
Sandman owns the second-lowest odds for Saturday's race, but his prospects look a bit worse after a seventh-place mark at Churchill Downs.
Sandman only has one victory in his last four starts from the Arkansas Derby. He also took second and third in pre-Derby races, but his race-winning pedigree is not as strong as Journalism's.
Goal Oriented and Clever Again are the other horses listed below 10-1. Neither horse participated in the Kentucky Derby or any of the major pre-Derby events.
It's hard to tell how competitive both of those horses will be in a field with two of the best three-year-old horses.
However, there is a jockey edge for the three horses directly behind Journalism on the odds board.
John Velazquez (Sandman), Jose Ortiz (Clever Again) and Flavien Prat (Goal Oriented) won three of the last four Preakness Stakes.
Journalism's jockey Umberto Rispoli is a decorated international jockey, but he doesn't have a Triple Crown win. That's the only knock on the pre-race favorite.
