It's unclear exactly how old the gator was, but TMZ Sports noted estimates had him being at least 80 years old based on his length and number of teeth lost.
Morris was the one-eyed alligator in the 1996 film who was revealed to have bitten off the hand of Chubbs Peterson as played by Carl Weathers.
The fight between Sandler and the gator is one of the two famous brawls in the movie. It memorably ends with Sandler retrieving his ball from Morris' mouth, then later revealing he also took his head as payback for Chubbs' hand.
Of course, the reveal backfired because Chubbs was so startled that he fell out of a window. While in the afterlife, he did tell Happy not to feel bad because he got his hand back following his death.
Sandler did mention in his post that Morris losing his head meant he won't be appearing in Happy Gilmore 2, but noted the crew "appreciated the fruit basket and the hilarious note."
The Sandman also praised Jay Young, who owned the gator farm where Morris lived, for taking good care of him for all these years.
While Happy Gilmore is probably featured Morris' best known film role, IMDB noted he also appeared in several movies and television shows over the course of his career.
Other acting credits for Morris include Dr. Dolittle 2, Alligator, Alligator II: The Mutation and Interview with the Vampire.
