'Jake Paul Wouldn't Want to Fight a Fighter Like Me,' Says Jermall Charlo, 'We Homies'
Unbeaten middleweight Jermall Charlo doesn't envision crossing paths with Jake Paul in a boxing ring, though it's an idea to which he's open.
"Jake Paul wouldn't want to fight a fighter like me," Charlo said to TMZ Sports. "On top of that, me and Jake are pretty cool. We homies. But I'll fight him. You fight your homies sometimes."
For now, Paul is otherwise occupied with Julio César Chávez Jr. They're scheduled to face off June 25 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Assuming Paul is victorious, he could go in a number of directions from there. His unsuccessful pursuit of a Canelo Álvarez fight is a sign of how he's trying to move up the ladder.
Chávez may not be among the top boxers in the world, but he boasts plenty of experience with 61 professional bouts under his belt. This is certainly a step up from challenging a way past-his-prime Mike Tyson.
Opposing Charlo would be another way for Paul to gain a big feather in his cap.
The 34-year-old has 33 wins, 22 coming by knockout. He claimed the WBC middleweight title in 2018 after knocking out Hugo Centeno Jr. and held the belt until May 2024. The WBC stripped him of the gold following his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Charlo will meet Thomas LaManna in Las Vegas on May 31, his first fight since a November 2023 victory over José Benavidez Jr.
