Scottie Scheffler Ties PGA Tour's 72-Hole Record with 31-Under in 2025 CJ Cup Win
Scottie Scheffler made history in the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch on Sunday.
Scheffler won the event with a 31-under finish, tying the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history.
It was a wire-to-wire win for the 28-year-old, who ended the competition with an eight-shot lead over Erik van Rooyen at No. 2.
Scheffler earned his 14th career PGA Tour win and his first of the 2025 season.
He started the event on a high note by carding a 10-under 61 in the first round and maintained his lead over the rest of the field by shooting a 63 and 66 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Scheffler capped off his victory with a dominant performance on Sunday, racking up eight birdies compared to just two bogeys. He also recorded an eagle with a putt from 20 feet away on hole No. 9.
Sunday's result marked the first Nelson win of Scheffler's career, his hometown event and the same competition that he made his PGA Tour debut in as a 17-year-old amateur in 2014.
“It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifices for little moments like these and they’re pretty special," Scheffler said in an interview with CBS Sports following the victory.
The No. 1 player in the World Golf Ranking was off to a relatively slow start to his 2025 season after he amassed seven PGA Tour victories in 2024, but his latest win could give him some momentum moving forward.
