Indians Set Record with 4 Starters Reaching 100 Strikeouts Before All-Star Break
Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer reached 100 strikeouts for the season during Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Houston Astros, making the Indians the first team in major league history to have four starters record 100 strikeouts before the All-Star break, per MLB Stat of the Day.
After giving up a two-run homer to Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis in the top of the first inning, Bauer held Houston scoreless for the rest of Wednesday's game, finishing with nine strikeouts over eight innings and allowing just the two runs on six hits and no walks.
He now has 102 strikeouts this season, joining fellow Indians pitchers Corey Kluber (148), Carlos Carrasco (115) and Danny Salazar (108) in the 100-strikeout club.

Only nine other American League pitchers have reached 100 strikeouts thus far, with 15 more pitchers hitting the mark in the National League. The San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers all have two pitchers with 100 strikeouts while the Chicago Cubs have already had three players reach the mark.
Entering Thursday's action, the Indians have fanned an MLB-high 780 batters as a team, sitting 27 ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers (753) despite having played two fewer games.
As hard as it is to predict a repeat of a historic feat, this may not be the last time the Indians' young rotation has four starters reach 100 strikeouts before the All-Star break.
Kluber, Carrasco, Salazar and Bauer are all 29 or younger, and each of the four is either arbitration-eligible or under contract through 2019.
