2015 MLB All-Star Game: TV Schedule and Complete Rosters for Both Teams
Interleague play may have taken away quite a bit of the unfamiliarity between players in the American and National League, but playing in the All-Star Game and winning it is still a feather in the cap for winning players.
The All-Star Game may not have quite the cultural meaning it did when Ted Williams hit a walk-off home run at Briggs Stadium in 1941 or when Pete Rose steamrolled Ray Fosse at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati in 1970, but it's still a point of pride for all players.
For those who decry the winning league in the All-Star Game getting home-field advantage in the World Series, consider that prior to former Commissioner Bud Selig's decision to make that happen, home-field advantage was alternated year-to-year between the leagues.

It was merely a back-and-forth situation, and there was nothing a team could do to earn home-field advantage in Game 7. Winning the All-Star Game may not be the best alternative, but it's certainly a lot better than it had been in the past.
The 2015 All-Star Game from Great American Ballpark features the return of the All-Star Game to the scene of perhaps its most dramatic game in the last 50 years. Not only did Rose barrel over Fosse to win the game in the 12th inning, the National League overcame a three-run deficit in the ninth inning to send it into extra innings.
If this year's All-Stars can come close to matching that drama, they will have played a brilliant game. In this piece, we look at four All-Stars from both rosters who have a chance to have a huge impact in the game.

American League
P Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox—Sale is an All-Star for the fourth time in his career, and while he is scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, he could get an inning Tuesday night. Sale has been one of the nastiest pitchers in the game, as this left-handed flamethrower is capable of a three-strikeout inning that embarrasses the National League. Sale has already struck out 147 batters and he has a 0.94 WHIP.
2B Jose Altuve, Houston Astros—Altuve is the spark plug for the Astros and the leader of the most improved team in the American League. When everyone else in baseball was overpowering the Astros in recent years, the determined Altuve was playing hard despite tasting defeat on a near-nightly basis. He led the American League with a .341 batting average last year, and he has a .299/.343/.758 slash line this year with 95 hits and 25 stolen bases. Altuve is a game-changing player.

OF Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels—Trout was named the MVP of last year's game, and the player that ESPN's Tim Kurkjian calls "Mickey Mantle come back to life" will certainly have a chance to put his imprint on this game as well. His power, speed and ability to chase balls down in the outfield has made him one of the game's truly special players.
3B Manny Machado, Baltimore Orioles—One of the best fielding third basemen since Brooks Robinson will have a chance to become a huge impact player in this game. While Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays is a deserving starter, Machado is simply lashing the ball this year in addition to making stellar plays in the field. Machado has 19 homers and 48 RBI in addition to a .301/.360/.895 slash line.

National League
P Gerrit Cole, Pittsburgh Pirates—The Pirates have been surging and may be able to make a run at the St. Louis Cardinals during the second half of the season. Cole is one of the big reasons, as he has a 12-3 record with a 2.28 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. Cole bears down in clutch situations well, and he makes his best pitches when the game is on the line.

1B Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks—Goldschmidt still flies under the mainstream radar even though he is one of the game's premier power hitters. The Diamondbacks are not likely to make the playoffs, so few pay attention to Goldschmidt even though he is having a dominant season with a .349/.466/1.085 slash line along with 20 home runs and 68 RBI. He has a chance to hit multiple home runs and end the American League's two-game winning streak.
OF Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals—Most of the experts anointed Trout as the player who will carry the torch as baseball's best in upcoming seasons, but Harper has made his case this year. The Angels star just may have some competition. Harper takes one of the most vicious cuts in baseball and he has blasted 25 homers and knocked in 60 RBI to go with his .343/.471/1.181 slash line.

C Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals—Buster Posey has the start, and he is the premier offensive catcher in the game. However, when it comes to defensive play behind the dish, the only player in the game's history who can compare with Molina is Hall of Famer Johnny Bench. Molina has a powerful arm and simply will not let the ball get by him. He's a solid offensive player, but his defensive play in the late innings can turn the game in the National League's favor.
