Masters Par 3 Tournament 2025 Date, Tee Times, Live Stream Info and Preview

Kristopher KnoxApr 8, 2025

The 89th edition of The Masters will tee off on Thursday, and fans will have plenty of storylines to track over the weekend. World No. 1-ranked Scottie Scheffler will be playing for his third green jacket in four years, while Rory McIlroy will be competing for the missing piece to his career grand slam puzzle.

Before the proverbial main course is served on Thursday, however, fans will be treated to quite the appetizer in the form of The Masters annual par 3 contest.

First introduced in 1060, the par 3 challenge has become less of a competitive event o tune-up round for the main tournament and more of a stress-relieving bit of fun. Golfers are often accompanied by their children and other family members as they compete on the nine-hole, par-27 course.

The par 3 challenge has become a beloved Masters tradition, and this year's edition promises to provide fans in attendance and watching at home an entertaining pre-tournament exhibition.

The Masters - Par Three Contest

While the Par 3 Contest doesn't carry the high stakes of The Masters—which features a total prize purse of $20 million—it has become a wonderfully fun way to kick off the weekend.

Augusta's par-3 course was designed by club co-founder Clifford Roberts and architect George Cobb and first opened in 1958. Located around DeSoto Springs Pond and Ike’s Pond in the Northwest corner of Augusta National, the 1,090-yard course plays backdrop to a family-friendly affair.

On Wednesday, fans are likely to catch some of the world's best golfers and more than a few family members playing the role of caddie.

For the golfers themselves, it can be a memorable experience. Brooks Koepka shared his anticipation ahead of last year's challenge, which saw him accompanied by his wife Jena and son Crew.

"He’ll be out tomorrow at the Par 3, him and Jena. So I’m super excited for that," Koepka said in 2024, per Rob Jerram of Today's Golfer.

No golfer has ever won the Par 3 Contest and The Masters in the same year—though 12 competitors have won the contest and the tournament in different years. This is why fans probably can't expect the top contenders to actually try winning on Wednesday.

Superstition is a thing in golf, after all.

However, fans can expect to see some incredible shots during the exhibition. According to Alex Perry of Today's Golfer, 112 holes-in-one have been made during the contest, with a record nine coming in 2016.

Rickie Fowler won the Par 3 Contest in 2024, while Mike Weir, who won in 2022, is the most recent winner to also have a Masters championship (2003) on his resume.

Regardless of who wins on Wednesday, the Par 3 Contest should be an enjoyable precursor to the more competitive four days of golf that will follow.
