AEW Dynasty 2025 Match Card Predictions for Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland and More

Chris MuellerApr 4, 2025

AEW Dynasty takes place this Sunday in Philadelphia. As of Thursday, nine matches had been booked for the pay-per-view.

Here's a look at the card as it stands:

—Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight (Men's Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal)

—Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart (Women's Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal)

—The Death Riders vs. Rated FTR (Trios Championships)

—The Hurt Syndicate vs. Big Bill and Bryan Keith (AEW Tag Team Championship)

—Kenny Omega vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey vs. Ricochet (International Championship)

—Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Cole (TNT Championship)

—Chris Jericho vs. Bandido (ROH World Championship)

—Toni Storm vs. Megan Bayne (Women's World Championship)

—Jon Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland (Men's World Championship)

Let's take a look at each match and offer up some predictions.

Quick Picks

1 of 7

Julia Hart vs. Mercedes Mone

The 2025 Owen Hart Cup kicks off this weekend with matches from the men's and women's brackets. Julia Hart will take on Mercedes Mone in what will be the former's biggest test since returning from injury.

Mone isn't going to lose in the first round of this tournament unless AEW books some shenanigans, so The CEO is the safe pick here.

Prediction: Mone wins

Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight

The men's Owen Hart Cup will see recent partners, Knight and Ospreay, face off to see who advances to the semifinal round to face the winner of Brody King vs. Konosuke Takeshita.

With Jay White being out with an injury, Ospreay feels like one of the heavy favorites to win this year. As fun as it would be to see a newcomer like Knight get a big upset victory, it's not going to be at the Englishman's expense.

Prediction: Ospreay wins

Rated FTR vs. The Death Riders

The Trios Championships are up for grabs when Adam Copeland and FTR challenge Pac, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli for the titles.

Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood have been teasing a breakup recently, or at least having some tension, so it makes more sense for them to lose this bout and continue building that story.

Prediction: Death Riders win

Kenny Omega Retains International Title

2 of 7

Kenny Omega is set to defend his recently won International Championship in a Triple Threat match against Mike Bailey and Ricochet this Sunday.

This pits one of AEW's founders against one of last year's biggest signings and the biggest free-agent signing of 2025, so there is good reason to be excited for this.

Omega, Speedball and Ricochet are all talented high-flyers, but they each utilize their own unique style, so this isn't going to feel like three people with the same arsenal fighting each other.

Ricochet has quickly grown into one of AEW's top heels, but this is not his or Speedball's time to win gold.

Omega has only held the title since March 9, so booking him to lose the title just one month later would be genuinely shocking. This will be a great match that puts more eyes on Speedball and Ricochet, but the champion will prevail in the end.

Swerve Strickland Wins the World Title

3 of 7

The Death Riders' storyline has been met with mixed reactions from fans for several months, and this feels like the right time for AEW to finally pivot.

Not only has this story kept the world title off television for the better part of a year, but it has also led to fans growing tired of waiting for new developments. Wheeler Yuta is spinning his wheels, the trios titles feel irrelevant and Marina Shafir has little more to do that stand there looking intimidating.

If AEW hopes to keep this group around, it needs a boost. In a weird way, losing the world title might be exactly what this story needs.

Strickland is the perfect choice to take the title from Mox because he has been one of the most popular babyfaces in the company since he turned following his feud with "Hangman" Adam Page.

Giving us a fresh champion would put Swerve back on top and give The Death Riders a chance to regroup and figure out what the stable needs to be.

Toni Storm Bests Megan Bayne

4 of 7

Toni Storm has been riding a wave of momentum ever since she regained the world title from Mariah May, but she is about to step into the ring with her biggest challenge to date in the most literal sense.

Bayne has been booked as a near-unstoppable powerhouse since arriving on the scene in AEW, and management was right to thrust her into the world title picture right away to establish her as a threat.

However, this will not be her big moment. Bayne has been positioned as a huge obstacle for Storm to overcome, and that is exactly what she is going to do.

AEW spent too long telling Storm and May's story to have Timeless' current reign end this quickly. This is going to be a tough challenge for the champion, but she's going to leave Dynasty with the belt around her waist while Bayne likely transitions to chasing the TBS title.

Bandido Chops Down the Learning Tree

5 of 7

Chris Jericho is set to defend the ROH world title against Bandido on Sunday in a Title vs. Mask match. The stipulation is fun, but it also telegraphs the outcome.

Bandido is not going to lose his mask. It's too integral and important to his character, and losing it in a haphazardly built feud with Jericho would be a terrible way for him to get unmasked.

This storyline began when Bandido returned at Final Battle 2024, but he suffered an injury that forced AEW to put the feud on hold until he was healthy enough to compete.

Jericho has been almost completely absent from ROH programming during his run. The promotion deserves an active and present champion, which is what Bandido can be.

The luchador is going to put his high-flying skills on display and likely leave Dynasty with another ROH world title to add to his list of accomplishments.

The Hurt Syndicate Is Going to Prune Some Branches

6 of 7

Jericho's cronies are going to have their biggest tag match to date this Sunday when Big Bill and Bryan Keith challenge Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin for the AEW tag titles.

The Hurt Syndicate has been on a roll as of late, so there is no way AEW is going to book them to drop the tag titles they have only held since January 22.

Even with MJF looming as a possible threat in the background, the odds of Lashley and Benjamin losing the belts feel very low.

This match will showcase the power of Lashley and Big Bill alongside the versatility of Benjamin and The Bounty Hunter, so we're in for a physical contest.

Adam Cole Becomes New King of TNT

7 of 7

Daniel Garcia and Adam Cole have had two matches for the TNT title that both ended without a definitive winner, so AEW has booked this match without a time limit to ensure there is a conclusive outcome.

The TNT champion has been great in this storyline and has proved he is on the same level as his more experienced rival, but he is going to be disappointed on Sunday.

Cole is a big name in AEW and has been without a title since he and MJF lost the ROH tag belts in December 2023. It's time to put some gold around his waist.

This will likely be one of the better bell-to-bell performances we see this weekend, so regardless of who leaves with the title, the fans are going to win in the end.
