Chock and Bates took a commanding 3.74-point lead heading into Saturday's free dance, as their 90.18 score represented a new season-best mark.

“We’re the most prepared that we’ve ever been, and we’re ready to go,” Chock said, via NBC Sports' Nick Zaccardi.

They're attempting to become the first pair of ice dancers to win three consecutive world championships in 28 years.

As for Liu, she built upon her lead in Wednesday's short program to secure her spot on top of the podium. It represented another milestone in her comeback after she retired in April 2022 at 16 years old, but came out of retirement in Oct. 2024.

Liu's routine was nearly flawless and included a triple flip, triple Lutz-triple toe, triple Salchow and a double axel.

"I mean, it means so much to me and everything I've been through," Liu said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "My last skating experience, my time away and this time around -- I'm so happy, I guess. I'm mostly glad I could put out two of my best performances."

The World Figure Skating Championships will continue on Saturday with the ice dance free dance and men's free skate.
