Report: Tiger Woods Movie in Development Focusing on Golf Legend's Rise
The story of Tiger Woods' rise to the status of golf legend is reportedly headed to the big screen.
Amazon MGM Studios has won the film rights to Kevin Cook's book The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played, according to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr.
Higher Ground, the production company owned by Barack and Michelle Obama, is in talks to produce the movie, according to Fleming.
Irwin Winkler, who was also a producer on the Creed and Rocky movies, is also in talks to produce, per Fleming.
The film will be helmed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, according to Fleming. He directed the 2021 film King Richard, after which Will Smith took home a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams' father Richard Williams.
The Tiger Slam was originally published by Avid Reader Press/Simon & Schuster in December 2024.
Cook's book tracks Woods' journey to becoming the first golfer to win four consecutive majors, starting with his historic 15-shot victory during the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
The story then follows Woods to the 2000 Open Championship at St. Andrews, the 2000 PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Club and finally the 2001 Masters at Augusta National.
When Woods won the 2001 Masters over David Duval and Phil Mickelson, he became the simultaneous holder of all four major titles.
Cook previously served as senior editor for Sports Illustrated and as editor in chief of Golf Magazine. His first book was Tommy's Honor: The Story of Old Tom Morris and Young Tom Morris, Golf's Founding Father and Son.
