Rory McIlroy: 'It Sucks' Tiger Woods Suffered Achilles Injury Before 2025 Masters
Rory McIlroy was disappointed to see Tiger Woods sidelined with a ruptured Achilles tendon ahead of the 2025 Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
"It sucks, yeah. He doesn't have much luck when it comes to injuries and his body," McIlroy told reporters Wednesday (h/t Golfweek's Cameron Jourdan.)
"Obviously, he was trying to ramp up to get ready for Augusta, and Achilles surgeries obviously aren't fun. So, hope he's in good spirits, and hoping he's doing okay. We obviously won't see him play golf this year, and hopefully we see him maybe play in 2026."

Report: MLB Vet Unretires After 1 Day
When asked if he believed Woods would be able to come back from the injury, McIlroy answered: "He'll try... Judging by prior behavior, he'll definitely try."
Woods announced Tuesday he had suffered a left Achilles injury while he "began to ramp up my own training and practice at home."
He said he underwent surgery on the ruptured tendon Tuesday morning.
"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you all for the support," Woods wrote.
Woods has not yet played on the PGA Tour in 2025. His last competitive start at a PGA Tour event took place during The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Course last July.
He was set to make his season debut at The Genesis Invitational in February, but withdrew from the event following the death of his mother.
Woods has been limited by multiple injuries over the last few years, including the severe leg and ankle injuries he suffered in a 2021 single-car crash.
Despite his limited participation as a player Woods has remained active in the sport, including by partnering with McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley to launch the indoor golf league TGL.
McIlroy, who won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, is expected to participate in the 2025 Masters. For now he will focus on competing with two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler in the 2025 Players Championship, which is set to begin Thursday at TPC Sawgrass.
