UConn's Dan Hurley 'Embarrassed' by Viral 'Best Coach in the F--king Sport' Video
UConn head coach Dan Hurley said he's "embarrassed" by the viral video of him telling a referee, "Don't turn your back on me, I'm the best coach in the f--king sport" earlier this season.
"I'm complex...now listen, I had no idea, if I knew that the camera was on me there's no way I would have said that. But I'm embarrassed," Hurley said on CBS' 60 Minutes.
The exchange happened in the first half of No. 19 UConn's 80-78 overtime win over Butler in late January.

The 52-year-old, in his seventh season with the Huskies, didn't shy away from his intentions in the moment, despite calling it embarrassing.
"So, yeah when I get into it, sometimes I will say or do anything that I think may give some type of an advantage either with an official or with firing my team up or with carrying myself with confidence and swagger that is going to give my team the ability to play better," Hurley continued.
At the time, Hurley expressed his desire for the cameras and spotlight to focus more on other coaches, not just him, according to ESPN. This came after he avoided confirming or denying what he said to the officiating crew but admitted he was looking for more "communication" from them.
"I just wish they put the camera on the other coach more. ... I just wish they would show these other coaches losing their minds at the officials in other Big East games that I'm coaching where ... I'm not talking to officials," Hurley said, per ESPN. "I see the other coaches as demonstrative as I am. But the camera, obviously ... I've created this for myself. I'm not the victim."
With UConn, Hurley has made four NCAA tournament appearances, winning back-to-back national championships. The Huskies defeated San Diego State 76-59 in 2023 before taking down Purdue 75-60 last season to remain reigning champions.
The Huskies are 22-9 this season, their highest loss total in two years, and are unranked for the first time since November 2022, ending a 51-week streak in the rankings.
