2015 MLB All-Star Game: Starting AL, NL Rosters Based on Final Results

Rob GoldbergJul 6, 2015

The votes are tallied, and for the most part, the fans did a good job of selecting the starters for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.

While there were some questionable calls throughout the voting process—including what was seemingly a Kansas City Royals player at every position—it seems the final results found a way to return to normalcy. Although there will obviously always be debates about the merits of each player, most of the game's top stars will deservedly be in action July 14 at Great American Ball Park.

Here is a look at the starters for each league along with the final voting results at each position:

One of the top stories for the All-Star voting leading into the final announcement was the fact that the American League roster was littered with Royals players. While they have played well to start the year and are the reigning league champions, no one could legitimately argue Omar Infante and his .547 OPS deserved to start over players like Jose Altuve and Jason Kipnis.

Fortunately, the final tallies were much more rational, as noted by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports:

That said, there are some who will argue this was still too many spots for Kansas City. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports listed a few players he felt were more deserving:

Meanwhile, even though Infante didn't get the start at second base, there was still at least one person upset by the results. Kipnis summed his feelings up after the announcement with this tweet:

There were some easier choices in the AL, including Mike Trout in the outfield and Nelson Cruz as the designated hitter. The top overall vote-getter was actually Josh Donaldson at third base thanks to his 19 home runs and .296 batting average, although Manny Machado could also have a legitimate claim.

In the National League, Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt were easy selections at their respective positions. The two players could be battling for not only the MVP this season, but also a chance at the Triple Crown.

Considering the two players have each been worth at least 1.5 more wins than anyone else in the league this season, via ESPN, they were clear choices to start the All-Star Game.

Todd Frazier also earned his starting spot despite a lot of competition in the voting from Matt Carpenter. Fortunately, fans realized the Cincinnati Reds third baseman deserved his chance to start in front of the hometown crowd after hitting 25 home runs in 79 games so far this season.

While this will be his second career All-Star Game appearance, he was still thrilled to earn this spot:

One of the more interesting things to follow going forward, however, is which players will end up filling out the lineup for the NL. Not only will one person be added as a designated hitter, but there could also  be injury replacements for both Giancarlo Stanton and Matt Holliday.

With this in mind, don't be surprised to see players like Andrew McCutchen, Joc Pederson or A.J. Pollock end up starting when all is said and done.

The good news is even those who might have deserved a starting spot on either team, like Prince Fielder, Brandon Crawford or anyone else, still have a chance to make it as a reserve. The rest of the position players as well as the pitchers will be announced Monday night.

If your favorite player still hasn't earned a spot in the Midsummer Classic, then it might be time to really complain.
