NL All-Stars 2015: Full List of Selections and Snubs After Voting Results

Rob GoldbergJul 5, 2015

This year's MLB All-Star Game will feature some deserving starters, although many top players were left off the list.

Unlike the pitchers and reserves, which will be announced Monday, the starting position players were completely decided by fan vote. This led to many obvious selections like Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt, two players who have had fantastic seasons to this point. On the other hand, there are quite a few questionable choices as well.

Here is a breakdown of the National League All-Stars and vote totals at each position.

For all of the worthy selections on the team, there were quite a few players who should have gotten a spot.

One of the biggest question marks in the starting lineup is Matt Holliday, who has only played 52 games this season while limited by injuries. He is batting .303 on the year, although the three home runs leave much to be desired.

As a result, a handful of worthy outfielders were left off of the initial list of starters.

Andrew McCutchen is having a bit of a down season after four All-Star appearances in a row, although he is still producing good enough numbers to make him one of the top players in the league at his position. After batting just .194 in April, he has his batting average up to .297 after averaging better than .330 in each of the past two months.

A less experienced player looking for the spotlight is Joc Pederson. The 23-year-old rookie is batting just .234 but has 20 home runs already on the year and has tons of power.

Still, the player who might be the most deserving of a starting spot is Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock. While he isn't a household name, he is batting .303 with 10 home runs and 18 stolen bases as a dangerous threat in the lineup ahead of Paul Goldschmidt.

Despite these numbers, the 27-year-old hasn't considered the possibility of going to the Midsummer Classic. When asked how much he thought about getting a selection, he responded to Paola Boivin of AZCentral.com:

"

Not at all, honestly. It would be cool to make an All-Star Game, but it's not a good thing to be focused on. That's a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with how I prepare each and every day.

I'm trying to give everything to this team. The personal stuff will take care of itself.

"

At least one of these players will likely get a chance to fill in for the injured Giancarlo Stanton, but with Holliday likely returning to action, a few of these men will be left out.

Other positions featured some disappointing omissions, although it was often tough to leave someone out. Jhonny Peralta has had a strong season and is worthy of an All-Star appearance, but a few other shortstops deserved consideration.

Brandon Crawford earned a believer in Jon Morosi of Fox Sports last month:

The fact his current WAR of 3.8 is more than one win greater than any other NL shortstop also shows how much of an impact he has had in all phases of the game.

Meanwhile, Troy Tulowitzki is having yet another fine season with a .321 batting average while posting an 18-game hitting streak through Sunday.

Other than that, the NL fans did a relatively good job of picking the top players at each spot. It seemed Todd Frazier would be the biggest snub after trailing Matt Carpenter in earlier votes, but he had a late push to easily top his NL Central rival, as noted by Mark Sheldon of MLB.com:

With the third baseman joining the starting lineup and getting to play in front of his hometown fans in Cincinnati, those watching at Great American Ballpark on July 14 will be in for quite a show.
