NASCAR at Daytona 2015: Live Results, Standings for Coke Zero 400
Dale Earnhardt Jr. captured his second checkered flag of the season on Monday morning at the rain-delayed Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
Junior led 97 of 161 laps in the race that was delayed for nearly four hours by rain, but his win was overshadowed by a near-tragic wreck heading down the final lap of the race.
Denny Hamlin and Austin Dillon got together battling for position down the final stretch, involving nearly the entire field and flipping Dillon's car into the air where it crashed into the catch fence.
There was an explosion when the car hit the fence, and it came careening back onto the track where it landed upside down and was struck by Brad Keselowski's car.
Pit and emergency crews immediately rushed on the track, and Dillon, somehow, was able to walk away from the wreck under his own power and without apparent injury. He was treated at the infield care center and released.
It was an eerie scene, especially when you consider that Dillon drives the iconic No. 3 car that once belonged to Dale Earnhardt Sr., who was killed at Daytona in a wreck during the 2001 Daytona 500.
Junior's win is his fourth at Daytona and the 10th of his career at a restrictor-plate track.
Jimmie Johnson finished second.
Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch rounded out the top five.
NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series returns to action Saturday night with the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway.
