Ranking Mets' Best All-Star Game Candidates
Each year, MLB has its All-Star Game to honor the best players from the first half of the season. This year's Midsummer Classic will take place in Cincinnati. Hopefully, all of the most deserving players will be a part of their respective league's roster, but more than likely, some players will still get snubbed.
The latest MLB voting update shows that no New York Mets hitters will be starting on the National League roster, and with the way the Mets offense has performed all season, it only makes sense that few, if any, Mets hitters would even be deserving of the honor this season. David Wright is among the top five third basemen but has spent most of the first half of the season on the disabled list.

That being said, the Mets' All-Star(s) of the season will almost certainly come from their pitching, which, of course, is voted on by all the players as well as the All-Star Game managers, who will be Ned Yost of the Kansas City Royals and Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants.
Here are the Mets' top four All-Star candidates, ranked in order of their chances of actually becoming All-Stars. No one else on the Mets really has much of a shot at this point.
4. 1B Lucas Duda
1 of 4
2015 Season Statistics: .253/.359/.433, 20 2B, 10 HR, 33 RBI, 36 BB, 37 R
Lucas Duda has had a solid season so far despite recent struggles. Unfortunately, the depth of NL first basemen pretty much eliminates any real chance he has of being an All-Star this season. Paul Goldschmidt of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs all have excellent chances of becoming All-Stars, and Duda is not going to get in over any of them.
Duda ranks eighth among NL first basemen in batting average, seventh in OBP, eighth in OPS, third in doubles, ninth in home runs, 11th in RBI, fourth in walks, and sixth in runs scored.
Duda does not have a shot at being an All-Star reserve, but no other Mets hitter would have had a better shot than him, anyway.
3. SP Matt Harvey
2 of 4
2015 Season Statistics: 15 GS, 7-5, 2.99 ERA, 99.1 IP, 17 BB, 96 K, 1.01 WHIP
Matt Harvey has a good chance of making the NL All-Star team this season but almost certainly will not get the start again like he did in 2013.
Harvey currently ranks tied for 10th in the NL in wins, 13th in ERA, 14th in strikeouts and sixth in WHIP. These numbers are by no means a guarantee to be an All-Star, but Harvey could get enough votes on the player ballots to get his second trip to the All-Star Game. It's a 50-50 chance he becomes an All-Star at this point simply due to the competition he is facing.
2. CL Jeurys Familia
3 of 4
2015 Season Statistics: 2-0, 1.19 ERA, 21 SV, 23 SVO, 37.2 IP, 5 ER, 23 H, 12 BB, 39 K, 0.93 WHIP
Few NL closers this season have been better than Jeurys Familia, who has broken out in his first season as the Mets' full-time closer.
Familia currently ranks fifth in the NL in saves, but his 1.19 ERA is second to the St. Louis Cardinals' Trevor Rosenthal's 0.50 ERA among all pitchers with 15 or more saves. His five earned runs are also second to Rosenthal among all pitchers with at least 15 saves. His 0.93 WHIP leads all NL relievers with 15 or more saves as well.
Rosenthal clearly is a lock to be an All-Star, so Familia's main competition for an All-Star spot will be Mark Melancon of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Drew Storen of the Washington Nationals and Jason Grilli of the Atlanta Braves. Familia's numbers should be good enough for him to be an All-Star, but depending on how the player ballots and manager votes go, nothing is for certain.
1. SP Jacob deGrom
4 of 4
2015 Season Statistics: 16 GS, 8-6, 2.30 ERA, 105.2 IP, 20 BB, 102 K, 0.97 WHIP
If any Met is a lock to be an All-Star this season, it's Jacob deGrom. Despite the solid season Matt Harvey has had, deGrom has clearly been the Mets' ace this season and is among the NL league leaders in a few important categories.
The 27-year-old is tied for sixth in the NL in wins, sixth in ERA, 10th in strikeouts and tied for fourth in WHIP. Zack Greinke, Max Scherzer, AJ Burnett, Gerrit Cole and Shelby Miller are the only NL pitchers with better ERAs, which shows the kind of company deGrom is among.
He's a long shot to be the All-Star Game starter with the seasons that Greinke and Scherzer, in particular, have had, but he should certainly be a lock to be an All-Star for the Mets this season.
All-Star Predictions: deGrom and Familia both make the team from player ballots and Harvey wins the NL Final Vote.
