DeMarre Carroll to Raptors: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
After a successful two-year stint with the Atlanta Hawks, forward DeMarre Carroll will be taking his talents north of the border to play with the Toronto Raptors.
Carroll announced his decision with an official Instagram post:
The Raptors announced the deal on July 9, while the Hawks wished the forward luck in Toronto:
As far as the particulars of Carroll's deal with Toronto, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports the two sides agreed to a four-year pact.
Carroll's rise in the NBA speaks to his talent and work ethic. He was an obscure bench player who was assigned to the NBA D-League in his second year and traded once in his first three seasons before landing in Atlanta before the 2013-14 season.
With the Hawks, Carroll found his niche. The 28-year-old started 142 games over the past two seasons, averaging 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. His shooting percentage has gone up each of the last four seasons, led by a career-best 48.7 in 2014-15.
The Raptors hope that trend continues, as Carroll gives them a versatile dynamic forward to go with their strong stable of smaller players like Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. This is a franchise that's been on the rise for years, winning the Atlantic Division last season, but has struggled in the playoffs.
Carroll gives Toronto another outstanding piece to build around and hopefully lead the franchise to its first postseason series win since 2001.
