Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets: Game 4 Odds Preview, Betting Stats

OddsShark.comMay 25, 2015

The Golden State Warriors will be Game 4 road favorites for Monday as they try to book their first trip to the NBA Finals since 1975 by sweeping the Houston Rockets out of the Western Conference Finals.

The Warriors are coming off their most impressive effort and lone cover of the series in Game 3 Saturday when they routed the Rockets 115-80 on the road as rare underdogs of 1.5 points, and they are listed as five-point favorites for Game 4.

Golden State was an underdog in this year’s playoffs for the first time, responding with its most lopsided victory of the postseason. In fact, the Warriors had not been dogs in any game since the San Antonio Spurs were 4.5-point home favorites against them during the regular season back on April 5.

Reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry put together an outstanding performance with a game-high 40 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field, including going 7-of-9 seven-of-nine from three-point range. Curry also had a game-high seven assists.

Houston had covered the spread in each of the first two games of the Warriors vs. Rockets betting matchup in Oakland, losing both by a combined five points. However, the Rockets struggled mightily with their shooting in Game 3, making just 34 percent from the field (28-of-83), including 20 percent from beyond the three-point arc (5-of-25).

Leading scorer and NBA MVP runner-up James Harden experienced his worst shooting game of the playoffs, making only three of 16 attempts, with 10 of his team-high 17 points coming from the free-throw line.

The total has gone under in each of the first three games in the Western Conference Finals, according to the Odds Shark NBA database, following a similar theme for Golden State throughout the postseason. The Warriors have seen just two of their 13 playoff games go over the total despite being the highest-scoring team in the NBA during the regular season with 110 points per game.

Likewise, Houston ranked sixth in the league with 103.9 points per game during the regular season, but the team has seen its past four games go under following a string of six consecutive over results.

The Rockets have also scored progressively less points in each of their last six games, capped by a postseason low in Game 3. In addition, it was their lowest point total overall since beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 69-65 on November 16, 2014.
