Nike Kyrie 1 'Home' Release Date Schedule, Pics and Retail Price
Kyrie Irving is on his way to an impressive 2015 NBA playoffs with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Perhaps the best news is that his feet are going to look good doing it too.
Nike is releasing a “Home” version of Irving’s signature shoe, dubbing it the Nike Kyrie 1 “Home” just in time for a potential deep postseason run.
Here are the Friday release details, per Nike.com. A number of additional pictures can be seen on that site as well.
Nike Portland shared a glance at the shoes in anticipation of the release date:
| Friday, April 24 | 10 a.m. | $110 ($100 in 3.5Y-7Y and $75 to 10.5c-3Y) | full family sizing |
The first thing that jumps out about the new Kyrie 1 “Home” shoes is the presence of the legendary infrared that has become a Nike staple. The infrared laced a number of Air Jordans and Nikes in the past, so it should come as no surprise that fans will see it again on Irving’s newest kicks.
Sneaker Bar Detroit passed along an interesting feature: “The Nike Kyrie 1 “Home” pays respect to Kyrie’s home court, home fans and home whites – referencing the famous line “There’s no place like home” from the Wizard of Oz.”
Considering the Cavaliers won 20 of their final 21 games in Cleveland, the line applies. That type of “Home” court advantage will be critical if Irving and his teammates plan on taking home the Larry O’Brien Trophy later this year.
The predominantly white pattern of the shoe is an homage to the home jerseys the Cavaliers wear at Quicken Loans Arena, although the shades of infrared and gray with the black tongue and Nike branding helps the shoe pop from a distance.
Here is a look at a number of different angles, per Nike Basketball:
Finish Line provided another angle:
The Kyrie 1 was unveiled in early December, and Irving became the 20th basketball player to earn a signature Nike shoe. He was also the first one to receive the honor since Kevin Durant in 2007.
Irving is only 23 years old, so his inspiration for the shoe game shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, per Darren Rovell of ESPN.com: “I would always buy the LeBrons. I had to have them, and there were so many color ways and so many different inspirations. Now that I'm his teammate, I see where all of this comes from. He's such a smart guy.”
LeBron James himself was notably supportive of Irving when the Cleveland point guard was given his own signature shoe, per Rovell:
"It's great. I'm happy for him. I was there as a friend, as a teammate, as a brother of his. I know what it's all about. It's a different feeling for him now. It's a lot of pressure, too, for sure, to have your own signature shoe. I'm happy that he's a part of the signature guys and part of the whole Nike family. We do things like no other. We don't follow behind nobody. We lead everything and for him to be a part of it, I think it's great.
"
The Friday Kyrie 1 “Home” release date is one of the early steps of what promises to be a successful run with Nike.
Irving is already a three-time All-Star, a former Rookie of the Year, an All-Star Game MVP and was part of the United States team that took home the championship at the 2014 FIBA World Championships.
The Cavaliers also appear to be the best team in the Eastern Conference in the early going of the playoffs, and Irving scored a combined 56 points in the first two games against the Boston Celtics.
There is a legitimate possibility that the Kyrie 1 “Home” will be remembered as a vintage shoe in one of the NBA’s most successful shoe lines if Irving continues on this path.
