Cliff Alexander Declares for 2015 NBA Draft: Latest Details and Reaction

Scott PolacekApr 7, 2015

It’s safe to say Cliff Alexander’s collegiate career at Kansas didn’t go exactly according to plan, but that will not stop him from entering the 2015 NBA draft.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman passed along the news Tuesday, which may come as a surprise to some considering Alexander only averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 17.6 minutes of action a night in his only college season. He did not appear in a single NCAA tournament game for the Jayhawks because of concerns about his eligibility.

Perhaps because of those concerns, Jeff Borzello of ESPN offered his take on the news:

It is all about potential with Alexander when it comes to his draft stock, considering he was a disappointment production-wise and last appeared in a game on Feb. 23.

Alexander reflected on his time at Kansas in the following video, via Kansas Athletics:

DraftExpress has the once-highly regarded recruit as the No. 31 pick in its latest mock draft, which means he could theoretically have a chance to compete for immediate playing time as a possible late-first round pick, depending on the team’s situation down low.

On paper, he is a 6’8” and 240-pound forward who can hold his own on the glass against taller opponents because of his strength and create scoring opportunities on the blocks with impressive footwork.

While Kansas fans didn’t get to see a lot of that during his freshman campaign, some NBA team will likely take a chance on his potential in the draft.
