Masters Odds 2015: Latest Lines for Top Favorites at Augusta

Sean ODonnellApr 6, 2015

With such a stellar field chock-full of the world's best golfers set to navigate Augusta National in an effort to claim a coveted green jacket, it's quite difficult to select a favorite for the 2015 Masters. After all, we could easily make a case for practically every single participant.

Rory McIlroy is the world's top player, and while he has yet to win at Augusta, his recent showings in major tournaments have been brilliant. Jordan Spieth is on fire in 2015, and he may be the hottest player entering the Masters—his fine showing in the tournament last year helps as well. Bubba Watson continues to flourish at Augusta, and he's looking for his third green jacket in four years.

Perhaps the best way to determine which players are favored is to glance at the current Vegas odds. Here's a look at the latest Masters lines and odds analysis.

Odds Analysis

As expected, McIlroy sits atop the odds table. The world No. 1 went on a tear at the end of the 2014 season, winning three consecutive tournaments, including the Open Championship and PGA Championship. He began 2015 with a flourish as well, emerging victorious in Dubai; however, he's been missing from action of late.

Following a tie for 11th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy skipped the tour's next two tournaments. That appears to be a slightly risky move considering he hasn't finished better than a tie for ninth on American soil this season.

McIlroy hasn't had overwhelming success at Augusta in the past. The Masters remains as the only major the Northern Irishman has yet to win, as his best finish came at a tie for eighth in 2014. McIlroy is certainly capable of winning it all this year, but the state of his game remains a mystery following his short absence from action.

If any member of the field has as good of a shot—or perhaps slightly better—as McIlroy, it's Spieth. The 21-year-old phenom burst onto the scene at Augusta in 2014, putting together an extremely consistent four rounds to finish tied for second in the Masters. The only negative to that performance was his inability to record a sub-70 round.

Well, Spieth is in great shape to do so this time around, as he may be playing the best golf of his career right now. In eight tournaments this season, he has six top-10 finishes, including a win in the Valspar Championship. Spieth continued his momentum in the Valero Texas Open and Shell Houston Open, earning runner-up honors in each.

With so much momentum entering Augusta and the confidence instilled by his brilliant performance on the course in 2014, Spieth should be considered a likely candidate to don the green jacket in the aftermath of this year's first major.

McIlroy and Spieth may be the top choices to win the Masters, but there are plenty of other golfers to keep a keen eye on.

Watson hasn't been in action since the WGC-Cadillac Championship; however, his third-place finish in the event should give him some momentum entering a tournament in which he continues to excel.

Henrik Stenson hasn't fared particularly well at Augusta in the past, as his tie for 14th in 2014 was his best Masters finish. However, he's been playing extremely well this year and is coming off three consecutive top-five finishes, including a runner-up showing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

If we're considering players who have built some great momentum of late, we must take Dustin Johnson and Jimmy Walker into account here. Johnson has been resurgent since returning to the PGA Tour, winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship in early March. Walker is coming off a very impressive win in the Valero Texas Open, his second victory of the season.

Finally, we have the struggling veterans Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Injuries and swing issues have plagued these two superstars of late, and they will both be looking to get into a groove at Augusta. With seven Masters wins between them, Woods and Mickelson have plenty of confidence at this tournament, and that may be enough to get something going.
